MARKET OUTLOOK OF BIRD NEST (Swiftlet Bird Nest)

. Current total world demand is about 400 tonnes (mainly from China, Taiwan & Hong Kong)
· Supply is only fulfilling half of the total demand
· Cave bird nest comprising mainly black nest make up about 80% of the total production with the other 20% of white nest produced by swiftlet farms
· Indonesia produces about 100-150 tonnes a year with the rest of SEA produces 50-80 tonnes
· The market is set to grow even larger due to the popularity of birdnests as a prestigious and health enhancing food
